Beer, Bible and Religion that sucks

I have had the misfortune to be on both sides of the alcohol problem.  I used to drink too much when I was out of church.  Then I learned from a church that drinking was sin.  The bible has a LOT to say about drunks.  It has a lot to say about alcohol too.  It even says that it’s used in celebration worship (Deuteronomy 14:21-27) and that God made it (wine) to gladden the hearts of men. (Psalm 104:15).  Thats why THIS makes me sad.  No – it makes me sick!  It makes me nauseated.  The stench of religion if a foul smell in the nostrils of God.

Charles Hill is a friend of mine.  He went to what may be the hardest place in the US to plant a church.  He came up with a way to engage the culture he lived in in a very creative way.  And the organization that promised to fund the mission backed down because of this and 6 ounces of watered down beer!  I am outraged.  Sadly I used to be in that camp.  It’s like looking into the rear view mirror and seeing the wreck.

We have the privilege of helping Charles and his team through some very modest financial support.  What Crosspoint is able to give right now won’t even put groceries on the table for the Hill Family however.  While we cannot make a difference alone – together we can do amazing things.  We can’t win the religious war with the Pharisees.  But we can partner with people who want to advance the light of the gospel in dark places.

Please consider helping the Hill family and their mission to Utah – Missionwest.tv.  If you can give as an individual that would be awesome.   If you can get him into your church or mission board that would be even more awesome.  And please pray for this precious family.  Their lives are turned upside down but they are trusting Jesus with everything they have.
